NYU The Score: Sports Betting’s Grip on College Students

Did you know that over 70% of college students report they’ve placed a sports bet, with the average bettor making dozens of predictions each season?

Liberal Studies (LS) and NYU Athletics are hosting The Score: Sports Betting’s Grip on College Students, a featured conversation with sports business, law, and society expert, Kenneth L. Shropshire. He will be joined by Ryan Westman, NYU’s director of academic and student-athlete support services and compliance officer, and Malik Williams (LAW ‘19), NYU’s associate director of athletics for compliance, who will act as moderators.

This discussion will draw on perspectives from scholarship, sports competition, law, and business. They will explore how sports betting has become rampant—including who is impacted, who benefits, and insights on the way forward.

Open to the NYU community and the general public. Visitors must RSVP in advance and have a valid government ID to enter the building.
