On Thursday, April 13, at 7 p.m., in the Beekley Lobby, The Tatnall School will celebrate its 2016-2017 Independent Scholars. Established to honor Tatnall’s belief in the importance of providing students with opportunities to pursue independent work as a “means to nurture curiosity and to encourage students to grow in curiosity and self-esteem,” the Independent Scholars Program gives students the autonomy to direct their own learning. The topics this year are extremely diverse and range from Architecture and Urban Development in Wilmington to the Harmful Effects of Plastics on the Human Body to the Fusion of Culture in Chinese and American Fashion.
The evening will begin with a talk from our keynote speaker, Wayne Kimmel ’88, an entrepreneur, venture capitalist, philanthropist and author. Kimmel is the Managing Partner of SeventySix Capital, the venture capital firm he founded in 1999, and the author of the 2016 book, “Six Degrees of Wayne Kimmel,” in which he shares practical secrets to his success. In addition to being named a Top Innovator by Philadelphia Magazine, Kimmel is the 2003 recipient of Tatnall’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
Following Kimmel’s talk and individual presentations from our Scholars, attendees will have the opportunity to move through the Beekley Building and get a closer look at the interesting and innovative projects our students have worked on over the last several months. Please join us as we celebrate the culmination of our students’ hard work and welcome a noted alumnus back to campus.
